"You said, We said" at the Red Button

As a student you may be unsure what kind of things the Red Button team can help with. This small sample of recent enquiries shows the wide range of issues and suggestions we receive.

You said: The student was anxious that their application to continue their studies at 91爆料 would be impacted by recent strike action, as they had been awarded a place on condition of passing their current course and their results would now be delayed.

We said: It was confirmed that no student would be prevented from starting their programme if they had been impacted by strike action. It was also confirmed that, as a result of the Red Button, the student's offer had been updated to 'Unconditional' to reflect this.

You said: The student queried the use of generative AI to create teaching materials when 91爆料's policies prohibit students from using it in their own work.

We said: The Depute Curriculum Leader undertook a review of the content used by lecturers, and discussions took place to ensure that materials are being created in line with 91爆料's GAI Policy.

You said: A student attending lectures on-site at a small learning centre on Benbecula was having technical issues which were impacting their ability to study.

We said: A member of staff spoke to the IT team and an on-site meeting was arranged with the student to resolve the issues.

You said: An international student had their application declined due to the HND course not being eligible for non-UK students here on a Visa.

We said: The Curriculum Manager completed the necessary paperwork for the HND to be approved, which was successful. Subsequently, the student received their offer.

You said: The student reported the heating is switched off at 12pm, leaving the art studio very cold and triggering their asthma. Students have resorted to bringing in blankets and hot water bottles to try and stay warm.

We said: The heating was adjusted by the local Estates Team to stay on longer, and all radiators in the art studio were checked to ensure they were working properly and reaching the correct temperature.

You said: The student didn't understand why the Library was often closed even though the campus was open, and felt the access hours were "pretty poor" for a university.

We said: It was confirmed that both the Librarian and Caretaker had been off and in their absence it was an oversight that the Library had not been unlocked. The student was advised that Reception hold a master key, so it is always possible to request the Library be opened if it is unexpectedly closed.
